On April 1, 2018 at approximately 13:00, Officers responded to a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries at the intersection of Hwy 190 and Hwy 63 East. Upon arrival it was found that a pickup truck disregarded the stop sign hitting a small sedan in the driver's door. The driver of the small sedan was found in traumatic arrest (no pulse). MHO Jared Scoggan moved the pickup truck to provide access to the driver of the sedan. Once the driver was extracted, Cpl. Todderick Griffin began administering chest compressions (CPR) with proper depth and rate. The driver was then loaded into an ambulance where MHO Jared Scoggan assumed compressions until the ambulance was ready to leave. Cpl. Todderick Griffin then resumed administering CPR and rode with the ambulance to Jasper Christus Hospital. While in route to the hospital, spontaneous circulation (a pulse) was returned.
It is without doubt that had MHO Jared Scoggan and Cpl. Todderick Griffin not acted so quickly, the victim would not have survived. It was the officer's dedication to duty, public service and compassion for the fellow man that enabled them to save a life.
Presented by Chief Gerald Hall this 18th day of June 2018.
